Family Law

We are acutely aware of the enormous difficulties that arise for all parties in the breakdown of any family relationship. We advise clients as to the legal, financial and taxation implications of the breakdown of a relationship in a sympathetic and professional manner.

We are advocates of the collaborative law system as a means of resolving all matters arising from the breakdown of a relationship for suitable candidates and are also advocates of attempting to resolve matters through a negotiated settlement if at all possible in an effort to avoid having to engage in an adversarial court process. This can often mean engaging with a client and advising a client through a mediation process.

Our vast experience in dealing with family law matters allows us select the best method of resolving a client’s difficulty in the most effective and efficient fashion. In circumstances where agreement between the parties is not possible for whatever reason, we have extensive experience of dealing with cases in the High Court, Circuit Court and District Court depending on the circumstances of the individual case and the client.

Initially the area of family law was limited to married couples but the legislation governing this area continues to evolve, so that non-married, co-habiting couples can also benefit from many of the protections previously afforded to married couples.

We advise clients as to how best to regularise their affairs following the breakdown of the relationship with their husband, wife or partner. Throughout the process, we focus on the wellbeing of the client and any children they may have.

We advise clients in relation to the following:

  • Separation agreements (if appropriate)
  • Judicial separation proceedings
  • Divorce proceedings
  • Nullity proceedings
  • Breakdown of co-habiting couples
  • Co-ownership agreements for property
  • Maintenance
  • Access and custody
  • Guardianship
  • Domestic violence
  • Pre-nuptial agreements
  • Commercial agreements involving couples
  • Property rights of couples
  • Mediation
  • Collaborative law
